Anja Kovač, MD, is a Medical Oncologist at the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana and at the Izola General Hospital in Slovenia.
Dr Kovač graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2014 and finished her residency in Medical Oncology cum laude in 2022. She passed the ESMO Examination in 2020 with the highest score. Her professional and research interest are primarily breast cancer and head and neck cancer. She spent a part of her residency at the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels, Belgium, and at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown in Lisbon, Portugal.
Dr Kovač is also a PhD candidate at the Medical Faculty of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and an ESCO (College of the European School of Oncology) fellow. She has successfully published several abstracts at international oncology conferences and original research articles. Since 2016, she has been an active member of the Medical Chamber of Slovenia, the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) participating in some of their educational and organisational activities. In January 2022, she joined the ESMO Educational Publications Working Group.
Dr Kovač has served on the editorial board of a peer-reviewed medical journal in Slovenia for 4 years (Medicinski razgledi, 2012–2015) and has continued her engagement in medical publishing throughout her residency, where she has worked as a co-editor of numerous congress proceedings on the topics of breast and genitourinary cancers.
